I don't know about you, but I have had enough of this awful winter. And so my thoughts are wandering to upcoming signs of spring:
1. Punxsutawney Phil (shown here in an AP photograph) supposedly saw his shadow yesterday. This predicts an early spring (I shall disregard the Stormfax Almanac, which estimates that Phil's predictions only come true 39 percent of the time). I'd be more impressed if he came out with a roof rake, but maybe that's asking too much.
But even better:
2. Mets players start reporting for spring training in Port St. Lucie on February 16; their first game (against the Braves) is on February 26. Lets' go METS! (Oh, and Penny insists I include that the Yankees' first spring training game is against the Phillies in Tampa, also on February 26th.)
